Katherine Moffa is a proud Wilmington, North Carolina native whose lifelong passion for dance began at the age of three. From an early age, she immersed herself in the world of competitive dance, training extensively and performing at both regional and national levels. Her dedication to the art continued through college, where she served as both a performer and choreographer for UNC Wilmington’s competitive hip hop team, Physical Graffeeti. A certified member of Dance Masters of America and Carolina Dance Masters, Katherine has received comprehensive training across a wide range of styles, including ballet, tap, jazz, hip hop, lyrical, contemporary, pointe, musical theatre, pom, and acrobatics. Her versatility as both a performer and educator has allowed her to teach and choreograph throughout North Carolina and New York. In 2015, Katherine was accepted to train with the Radio City Rockettes at Radio City Music Hall in New York City, where she had the opportunity to perform on a Broadway stage at the American Airlines Theatre (now known as the Todd Haimes Theatre). She has also trained with and taken classes from renowned industry professionals such as Misha Gabriel, Willdabeast Adams, Al Blackstone, and Doug Caldwell, and has had the privilege of working alongside Jona Biddle, Shannon Atkins, Miles Keeney, and Casie GoShow. Katherine’s award-winning choreography has been recognized for its creativity and technical excellence, earning numerous top honors, overalls, judges’ awards, and choreography awards at prestigious competitions across the Tri-State area, as well as throughout North and South Carolina. Her work has been showcased on some of the most iconic stages, including Madison Square Garden during New York Knicks halftime show. Her dancers have performed in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and earned “Best in Show” honors for her choreography at the well-known Sleepy Hollow Halloween Parade in Tarrytown, NY. In addition to her achievements in the competition world, Katherine has also worked in television and theatre, with credits including the CW Network’s Hart of Dixie and multiple productions with the Opera House Theatre Company, such as The Will Rogers Follies, The Producers, Hairspray, The King and I, My Fair Lady, and A Chorus Line. She has also performed in Wilmington’s celebrated Dance-a-lorus Festival at Thalian Hall. Beyond the stage, Katherine has a strong passion for fitness and nutrition, which she integrates into her teaching philosophy—encouraging her dancers to care for their bodies as athletes and artists alike. She finds her greatest joy in inspiring and mentoring young dancers, known for her emphasis on strong technique, precise dance vocabulary, and her ability to help students connect the artistry of dance with its underlying physics—celebrating every “light bulb moment” along the way. Katherine feels it is her life’s purpose to foster a deep, lasting love of dance in every child who walks through South East Dance Academy’s doors. She is thrilled to be back home in Wilmington with her husband, Travis, and their two beautiful boys, and is even more excited to continue sharing her passion for dance with her beloved SEDA family.
